Was wäre Wien - 2024

Exhibition at Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum Wien

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum in 2025, a new exhibition is on display. In anticipation of this great exhibit, a preview, or “Vorschau” provides a first insight with six contributions.

The exhibition is part of the conceptual reorientation of the Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum, which was founded by Otto Neurath in 1925. The exhibition continues Neurath's program of making Vienna's current circumstances and problems accessible to a broad public through international and historical comparisons.

The exhibition is structured according to the alphabet, the letters of which serve as acronyms for the diverse topics that will be explored. The neutral structure of the ABC serves to link new and existing content. To incorporate feedback from the visitors into next year's exhibition, the following topics were selected for the preview: Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum (G), I (I), Metro (M), Neurath (N), Quasi (Q) and Strike (S).

The exhibition „Was wäre Wien“ places the daily lives of visitors in the context of global and historical developments. The overall aim is to convey what has shaped Vienna and what political, social and economic forces are influencing the city today.
